Westbury is committed to a continuing policy of efficiency in order to reduce the impact on the environment to a minimum by implementing the following procedures:
We only use hardwood where absolutely essential. Hardwood is not efficient because it has extremely high wastage. Instead, we use redwood that can be cut and ordered to size so that we only buy what we need. All of the timber used is from sustainable (managed) forests.
Westbury's modern processes ensure we produce very little waste in comparison to the traditional ways of timber manufacture. Our investment in state-of-the-art machinery means that any waste we do produce is burned, and the resulting energy is used to heat the factory, keeping our carbon footprint low.
Our preference is to buy timber that does not come from rainforests at all, be it FSC Protected or not. According to many sources, including the Prince Charles Rainforest Project, rainforests are one of the world’s primary carbon sinks and need to be preserved in order to reduce the effects of global warming.
The longer a building product lasts, the better it is for the environment. Our roofs, glass and timber provide durable waterproofing which maintains the thermal efficiency of the building for years to come. Whatever your requirements, Westbury will provide a sustainable solution.
